FAQs About Counseling at The Gentle Shepherd
What credentials do your counselors have?
Our counselors are licensed by the State of Ohio to either practice independently (LPCC; LISW) or under the supervision of an independently licensed counselor (LPC; LSW). Most of our counselors also practice as pastoral counselors.
Do you see children?
Yes, we have counselors and social workers who specialize in treating children and adolescents.
How long will I need to be in counseling?
This varies. Your treatment is dependent on the severity of the issues for which you are seeking counseling, your level of motivation and your treatment goals. You may discuss this topic with your therapist during your first visit in order to determine the best treatment plan for your needs.
Do you prescribe medication if I need it?
No, clinical counselors and social workers are not able to prescribe medication. If an evaluation for medication is recommended as part of your mental health treatment, you will need to see a medical doctor.
Would I be able to come to The Gentle Shepherd if I don’t want faith as part of my counseling treatment?
Yes. Please inform your counselor of this during your first visit. Our desire is to respect your individual treatment goals.
Are telehealth sessions available if I cannot come in for an appointment?
Yes. We know that some who would like to come to us simply live too far away or have other circumstances that make it impractical. For this reason, many of our counselors offer sessions over phone or video.
Our office staff would be happy to help with any further questions you might have!
