Janelle is a Licensed Professional Counselor who earned her MA from Malone University.
She has experience counseling individuals of all ages, couples, families and groups. Her focus areas of treatment are with adults and adolescents who suffer from anxiety, depression, grief, PTSD, abuse, shame, spiritual abuse and life adjustments. Additionally, Janelle works with blended families, parents who need additional support, and individuals in or out of relationships affected by personality disorders and/or mental illnesses.
Janelle facilitates an "Emotional Abuse Recovery" support group for women at The Gentle Shepherd Counseling Center. She holds on to the passage from 2 Corinthians 1:4, "Who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God".
Clinically, Janelle believes that the client/therapist relationship is of utmost importance in session and she seeks to create a safe and non-judgmental environment. Through this, her goal is to help clients gain knowledge, to become self-reflective and self-compassionate, and to develop coping skills to enhance emotional well-being. She realizes how difficult it can be to shed light in dark corners and commends clients for their vulnerability and strength.
Janelle utilizes techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients learn how to reroute negative thinking patterns into more realistic thoughts. She also uses techniques from Family Systems, EMDR, Interpersonal, Trauma, Play and Art Therapies. Additionally, she appreciates the 'universal language' of humor....
Janelle has an extensive background in women and children's ministry. She has led an online ministry and has experience in public speaking, writing and leading Bible studies.
Janelle is married to Matt and together they share the same passion towards faith, family, friends, humanity, and the mental health field. She is the mom of three amazing and active children who love sports and their community. Cooking, meal ministry, bird watching, reading and traveling are some of her favorite pastimes.
