Trauma Treatment

Trauma comes in many colors: Medical, Military, Childhood, Abuse, Neglect, Religious, Risk of Life, Sudden Loss, Sexual Assault...and so on.  Trauma-based approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Brainspotting (BSP) have been proven to assist in the process of healing trauma at the deep brain level. We have several clinicians trained in these modalities.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) utilizes bilateral stimulation to encourage the interconnections between the two hemispheres of the brain while processing the traumatic memory.

Bilateral stimulation is simply anything that alternates stimulation on both sides of the body: using alternating sounds,
back and forth eye movements, or alternating tappers often held in the clients hands.

EMDR is non-invasive and most clients feel fine driving themselves.

EMDR takes the client on a journey, starting with the client's story.  The therapist then works with the client on building coping and grounding skills.  Next, the therapist will assist the client in identifying targeted memories to work on during the next step: reprocessing.

BRAINSPOTTING

Brainspotting (BSP) was born from EMDR.  During Brainspotting, the therapist utilizes a pointer to assist the client in finding a "spot" in their field of vision.  The saying we have in Brainspotting is "where you look determines how you feel."

Research has found that the optical nerve can assist in accessing certain spots in the brain that house traumatic information.  BSP is sometimes coupled with bilateral sound to further assist in processing trauma.

Brainspotting is non-invasive
and most clients feel fine driving themselves.
